Regional Lawyers Criticise Uhuru for Withdrawing Raila Odingas Security

Regional Lawyers Raise Red Flag Over Opposition Leaders SecurityEast Africa Law Society (EALS) President James Aggrey Mwamu is accusing the government of Kenya of dragging the country into a "very dark error".

These accusations come after the driver to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was recalled for alleged redeployment.

Mwamu said Philip Juma had been Odinga’s driver over the past 14 years.

Other leaders in the opposition whose security detail are said to have been called off include Senators Johnstone Muthama, Otieno Kajwang, Janet Ongera and Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga.

Mwamu said that the EALS was not being malicious in any way but warning the government that the country would plunge into chaos should any misfortune befall this leaders’ whose security has been withdrawn.

He has called on the Government to uphold the rule of law by respecting the democratic space protected in the wake of the new Constitutional dispensation.

Commissioner General of Prisons Isaiah Osugo said that a circular had ben issued from the office of the security committee that prisons officers currently working as bodyguards to VIPs were being recalled.


The circular stated that the mandate of the Prisons Department is to provide security to prisoners and correctional facilities and hence their recalling to serve in accordance to the mandate of the department.
