President Uhuru Kenyatta now says the provincial administration is here to stay.
The president clarified those only Provincial
Commissioners (PCs) and provincial heads will be redeployed as part of
the ongoing restructuring of the provincial administration.
President Kenyatta pointed out that County Commissioners, District
Commissioners, District Officers and chiefs are still in service and are
expected to continue performing their duties.
“I want to clarify that those who we recalled are Provincial
Commissioners and provincial departmental heads but the other officers
will remain in their stations and are expected to continue performing
their duties as they were doing before,” President Kenyatta said.
The president had on Madaraka Day recalled the PCs and provincial heads as the government implements devolution laws.
The Head of State was speaking at State House Nairobi on Monday when
he presided over the swearing-in of Deputy Chief Justice Kalpana Rawal
and Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia.
The president observed that his government is in the process of
reforming the public service in line with the new Constitution which
sets out clear roles of the national and county governments.
“We at the national government must refocus on how we will begin the
process of transforming the Public Service in order to ensure that it is
both efficient and effective in discharging its mandate,” the Head of
State said.
President Kenyatta said his government had prioritised the
restructuring of the provincial administration in line the new
Constitution to ensure Kenyans receive quality services.
