Newly sworn
Secretary to the Cabinet, Francis Kimemia, has denied reports that he
ordered Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) officials to bar former Prime
Minister Raila Odinga from accessing the VIP lounge at Jomo Kenyatta
International Airport (JKIA).
In a statement sent to the press on Tuesday, Kimemia
who is also the Head of Public Service dismissed the allegations, saying
he did not participate in any way over the ban.
On Monday morning on his trip to Kisumu, Raila was
barred from accessing the VIP lounge which is assigned to senior
diplomats and senior Government officials.
Raila had arrived at the airport to catch a flight to
Kisumu when he was informed that he is not allowed to use the VIP
facility.
“He was told that the unit 3 VIP section is reserved
for the Deputy President and visiting Deputy Presidents,” former PM aide
Eliud Owalo said.
Owalo said a similar incident was meted on Raila’s wife Ida on Friday last week.
“The security personnel at JKIA claim that they are
acting on the basis of letter written by Francis Kimemia whose contents
they have been instructed to enforce to the letter at all airports
countrywide,” he said.
