Male model Renato Seabra 21, had a relationship with Carlos Castro 65, who was a well-known journalist and gay activist.
Sadly their fling ended with murder. After his 65 year old lover wanted to end the relationship Seabra beat him to death.
The 65-year-old Castro was found dead Friday night in room 3416 of the InterContinental New York Times Square hotel that the two men had shared. His unclothed body was covered in blood on the floor and he had been castrated, police said. The medical examiner's office ruled that Castro died from a combination of blunt impact head injuries and strangulation, according to spokeswoman Grace Burgess.
“Seabra, a Portuguese male model, was so tortured by his 7 month relationship with Castro that he beat him to death, castrated him with a corkscrew, then wore the dead man's manhood on his arms as he believed it had healing powers,” his defense lawyer said at Friday's opening of the murder trial.
"He put one on each wrist," lawyer Rubin Sinins said. "He did this for protection, he wandered the streets of Manhattan, touching people, because he believed he had the power to heal people from AIDS." Layer Sinins asked the jury to return a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity, with the possibility of being committed to a psychiatric facility.
Manhattan prosecutors countered that the young man was just a gold digger who knew that his cash flow was coming to an end. “Castro, flew him to Manhattan in January 2011 with the promise of getting him work through people he knew at a Manhattan modeling agency, as he wanted to pursue a career in modeling," Assistant District Attorney Maxine Rosenthal said.
“He wanted to be famous and make money and have nice things, clothes, electronics, gifts for himself and his family. He used Castro to get the things he wanted and to get to where he wants to be in life,” Rosenthal said.
But as the trip wore on, Castro grew tired of being the personal bank account for the young beauty, especially after he caught him hanging out with a group of women. Seabra beat the older man over the head with a computer monitor and then stomped him repeatedly until he was dead. He was angry over the breakup. He knew that what he did was wrong,” Rosenthal said.
At the trial, The model was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his boyfriend, and was sentenced to serve 25-years-to-life in prison.
