Police arrest IEBC clerk for trying to RIG ELECTIONS …… SHAME on HIM

IEBC Chief Executive James Oswago has confirmed that police officers on Monday arrested a polling clerk after he gave more than one ballot to a voter.

“The polling clerk has been arrested and investigation into the incident has started. The due process of the law will be followed,” said Oswago.

Oswago however did not elaborate on where exactly the incident had happened. The IEBC official made the revelation during a press briefing on the challenges that the commission had so far faced in staging Kenya’s first election since 2007.

Oswago also admitted that the IEBC has had to grapple with the destruction of voting material while on transit, delays in ballot box delivers, missing names on the voters register and the mix-up in the names and pictures of some candidates on the ballot papers.

Speaking at the central tallying station at Bomas, Oswago said the commission was trying to correct the problems;

“IEBC officers are making efforts to have them replaced as the law permits use of back up boxes,” he said.

Counting is currently under way in most of the country’s 33,000 polling stations. Results are slowly trickling in at the central tallying centre at Bomas.
