South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir sacks Vice President, dissolves cabinet

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Tuesday issued a presidential decree sacking the Vice President, Riek Machar Teny and dissolved his entire government, Sudan Tribune reports.

Kiir also removed from office all the ministers and deputy ministers of the government but did not announce any new appointments.

He directed the under-secretaries of the various ministries to run South Sudan’s ministries until further notice.

Kiir, who also doubles as chairman of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement party, has issued an order calling for investigation of the SPLM Secretary General, Pagan Amum Okiech.

He has formed a committee headed by the speaker of the parliament and deputy chairman of the party, James Wani Igga, as chairman of the committee.

Kiir accused the party’s top administrator of allegedly inciting violence and criticising his actions.
