President Uhuru Offers 'Otongolo Time' Narrator Daniel Owira Full Education Sponsorship Up to University

Highway Secondary School student Daniel Owira, famous for his Otonglo Time narration at State House Mombasa, just got full sponsorship up to and including university, from none other than the president.

President Uhuru hosted Owira and his family at State House Nairobi yesterday, where he made the announcement. He added that he will be following Owira's education progress closely, with instructions that he submit his report form at the end of every term.
On his Facebook page, the president wrote,
I have today offered full education sponsorship up to the university level to Daniel Owira when he visited me at State House. He is now one of my sons and will give me his report form at the end of every term.
Owira was further given a rare guided tour of State House, by the president.

The form two student rose to fame after giving a remarkable performance at State House Mombasa. He was one of the top performers at the national drama festivals, thereby booking a slot to entertain the president. After being left in stitches, president Uhuru rose to congratulate and shake Owira's hand.

His performance could have however been forgotten, had it not been for NTV's efforts. Larry Madowo hosted Owira in studio while the station followed up with a story of his poor upbringing at Fuata Nyayo slum.
It was revealed that the boy was struggling to pay his fees, among other needs. The station set up an Mpesa PayBill number for Owira and donations started coming in. Soon, there was enough to pay his fees until form four.
Musician Jaguar then came on board and paid Owira's school fees for one year.

With just one performance, Owira's life will surely never be the same again. The student is currently shooting a 'Back To School' TV commercial for Naivas supermarket, and there have been reports that he's been offered several part time acting gigs.
