I am not interested in a State Job, Raila tells Uhuru..

CORD leaders have categorically hinted that they do not intend to go back to parliament through an earlier proposed MP or Senate House reintroduction that would see Raila and Kalonzo back to Parliament.

The CORD flag bearer Raila Odinga openly declared yesterday that he has not been offered any job by the Jubilee Government and is not going to take up a job with the Government.

Their earlier trip to statehouse to pay a courtesy call to Uhuru and Ruto together with his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka made the public hint that the two have been offered jobs by the Uhuru government.

Raila said he is already betrothed on numerous assignments both international and local. Locally he says they will work as a Team to correct the government as the people’s watchdog. “I still hold the view that I can lead a strong Opposition from where I stand and that position has not changed,” he said.

Raila said he is already betrothed on numerous assignments both international and local. Locally he says they will work as a Team to correct the government as the people’s watchdog. “I still hold the view that I can lead a strong Opposition from where I stand and that position has not changed,” he said.

Raila in an Interview with a major Media station in Kenya revealed, “I have received numerous invitations from across the world. I have accepted some and declined others. This does not indicate to you I am a person who needs a government job.”

Raila said that there is no job offer that has been given to him by Uhuru Government.  “For avoidance of any doubt, let me state here that I will not accept any job if offered by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government,” he said.

The premier and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka had mentioned that the Uhuru Government should avoid interfering the opposition. This came as Amani’s presidential Candidate Musalia Mudavadi and other parties had entered into a post election deal.

“What I told the President is that he should resist the temptations to kill the opposition the same way successive governments have done,” he said.

Odinga said his “inbox” was full with international and local assignments that will keep him on his toes in coming days. “Accepting a job in government negates the very ideals enshrined in our Constitution,” he said.

Odinga said he is scheduled for a conference in South Africa, Australia and US.

At the Lutheran Cathedral Church in Nairobi, Raila dismissed reports that he had
been kept waiting for a job he was promised by Mr Kenyatta.

“There is danger of sliding back to the dark days, if we relax. We want to offer constructive opposition to the government. Of course, we will not just oppose for the sake of it, we will adopt a bipartisan approach in Parliament whereby we will support government when they are on the right track and where we feel all is not right, we oppose, but all in the interest of Kenyans.” He said.

He was accompanied by Leader of Minority in the National Assembly, Francis Nyenze and MPs nominated Oburu Odinga, Millie Odhiambo (Mbita), Simba Arati (Dagoretti North) and Chris Wamalwa (Kimilili).

Raila said he is disturbed by reports indicating that he has not been in the limelight lately because he is waiting for a job.

A local daily had reported at the weekend that Mr Odinga has not announced his next move because he was waiting for a state Job by the Uhuru Government.

“There was a job in the diplomatic circles, yes, but the President is yet to meet Mr Odinga to firm this up,” an official close to both leaders had told the daily. Other politicians close to the former Prime Minister said he was writing his memoirs.

The former premier gave a narrative that he has used severally since he failed his bid for presidency that “Kuvunjika kwa mwiko siyo mwisho wa upishi” – A kiswahili saying that means despite failure to achieve, doesn’t mean the end of the journey.
