Big Boost for UHURUTO as 53 African Countries vote against ICC except Botswana..
53 African have voted in favour of a petition to terminate International Criminal Court (ICC) cases against Uhuru and Ruto except Botswana.
The vote done through secret ballot sailed through after reports indicated that 53 states out of the 54 member states had backed it up.
Only Botswana has been reluctant to support the referral of the two cases against President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to Africa.
The motion was moved by Uganda president Yoweri Museveni and seconded by Africa’s newest state, South Sudan.
Sources say that in case the referral is not granted, then the Heads of State want the ICC not to humiliate the two leaders who are facing crimes against humanity charges at the court.
The motion also seeks to have the 2007-2008 post election violence re-investigated on the grounds that the then ICC prosecutor Louis Moreno Ocampo did a shoddy job.
Most of the leaders who spoke at the AU meeting are said to have been critical of the ICC claiming it was an institution being used to fight African leaders.
They said the issue of the Kenyan cases should unite the African continent
