It’s all systems go for President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta presidency and his Deputy in William Ruto. But, theirs, being a coalition government, fears of bickering ahead are not unfounded.
Many analysts see the Uhuru- Ruto pact as a marriage of convince for reasons that are in public domain. Granted, the duo surprised their foes and friends when they struck acoalition deal a few months before the March 4 polls.
The hugs, hearty handshakes and nice words they exchanged during the campaign trail makes one think that their union is here to stay. But in all hunts, issues rarely crop up during hunting; they does during sharing of the spoils.
With a cabinet size of a maximum of only 22 Cabinet Secretaries, sharing among the many competing.
interests will prove tasking. One only hope that their power-sharing deal, which is still shrouded in secrecy to public, spells clear cut agreements and the same be kept sacrosanct.
Some die hard supporters from each side of the coalition may soon surface to demand their share of the winner’s cake. The two Principals need to sagely deal with them.
It is said that politicking in this country never ceases. It will not be far-fetched to imagine that URP's William Ruto may start a scheme, even a discrete, silent one, on how he will in 2017 get the ultimate.
prize that he forfeited to Uhuru this year. The same will not augur well for service delivery as well as national cohesion.
A fall out, dressed as betrayal, will ensue. Kenyan history is replete with politics of betrayal of seismic nature. The Raila Odinga- Ruto fallout is the latest case study. Were Uhuru and his brother 'in the struggle' Ruto to path ways, God forbid, its aftermath will not be rosy for this country.
Kenyans are still smarting from a Coalition government which was marked by endless power duels and thus can't afford to go through another one.
It is thus prudent for the two to use all tricks in the book to make their Coalition work seamlessly all through their term in office.
