UoN Decides: Zack Kinuthia Wins Sonu Chairmanship amid Rigging ClaimsZachary Kinuthia Mugure is the new SONU Chairperson elect after beating his closest rival Jaganya with close to 1000 votes.

Kinuthia was born in Kigumo District in Kigumo Constituency. He went to Gaichanjiru High School in Kandara Constituency, Muranga County.

Kinuthia staged a very spirited campaign and had to overcome all odds to clinch the most coveted seat in the SONU elections. 

The young staunch Christian was in a tight race with Jaganya who have since not conceaded defeat.

Although the election did not come without controversies. It is alleged that in upper kabete campus most students failed to vote due to lack of ballot papers, and in chiromo campus a ballot box belonging to lower Kabete was hidden in one of the rooms.

The two top contenders were in a neck to neck competition until votes from Kikuyu campus were delivered that made the huge difference; kikuyu campus was Kinuthia’s stronghold.
Most candidates who failed in the elections complained that the process was not free and fair.

“no matter how much a hen may erect, it can never climb on a goat with the aim of raping it! revolution has to come whether i am rigged out as 'they' planned! We can never be blindfolded comrades, the student union must do its work!” one of the losers complained.
Other comrades did not agree with the results as well. “In SONU elections you may be voted in but not declared the winner, you may be declared the winner but not sworn in as the duly elected leader” one said.

Another one noted, “A lesson 4rm yesterday election, we need a non-partisan body to conduct election. The officials were the outgoing SONU, where the voice of money was louder than the will of the students.

Some of the successful candidates include; Dr. Iliwa who clinched the Health, Catering and Accommodation docket, Linda Sohelo is the Gender Affairs Secretary elect. Edith Mwirigi made history by becoming the first UoN female Secretary General, Jane Chege is the new Treasurer, Isack Muuo beat his closet rival to clinch the Legal Affairs docket.


Others include Nigerian Udochukwu Kelechi who won the Engineering faculty representative, Faculty of Arts was taken by Levi Mukoya and Mike Ondir is the new Upper Kabete Governor.
