Raila Odinga over the weekend gave an interview to the BBC Newshour and explained his decision to accept the court ruling although he disagreed with the way it was handled.
Raila highlighted the many failures by the IEBC and the “plethora of evidence” that the Supreme Court “disregarded”.
When asked how he was going to convince his supporter to accept the court ruling, this conversation transpired….
BBC: Mr Odinga, you still have your reservations but it is clear that some of your supporters just do not accept the court ruling. How are you going to persuade them otherwise?
Odinga: I am going to tell my people that we should look at peaceful ways of resolving this dispute and that the supreme court ruling is just one step in it but there are many other avenues that are still open to us to pursue our cause for justice.
Elections is just an event but the process of democratization continues. What I want to avoid is bloodshed similar to what we experienced in this country 5 years ago.
Raila in the interview also says that the wounds that fueled the violence of 2007 have been reopened.
