Kenya’s Hip-Hop recording artist, Nonini is the most popular East African musician on Facebook, a new survey has revealed.
The survey titled ‘East Africa’s Top 50 Artists on Facebook was
conducted by HiPipo 5Star, involving close monitoring of Facebook pages of more
than 150 East African musicians for four months.
The report shows that Nonini’s official page has the biggest number of
fans of about 91,650 Likes, followed by Wahu (Kenya) with about 83,356 Likes
while Jua Kali Genge (Kenya) comes third with 80,224 Likes.
Uganda’s most followed musician on Facebook; Big Size Bebe Cool comes
fourth on the East African list with a total of over 71,564 Likes.
Overall, all the top 50 East African artists on Facebook were followed
by a collective figure of over 1,710,630 people as of March 5th
2013.
Nonini becomes that first ever official No.1 Top Artist on Facebook, in
East Africa.
The top 50 East African artists on Facebook survey follows the previous
Top 14 Ugandan Artists on Social media study also carried out by HiPipo 5Star
in 2012.
Kenya topped this list with 64% representatives, followed by Uganda 24%,
Tanzania 10% and Rwanda 2%.
Much as Burundi was considered in this survey, no Burundian artist made
the top 50 list.
An average of 5.36% people talk about (check out pages, comment, like or
share activity on pages) every week. These artists’ pages have been followed
for the last four months to analyze growth and activity trends of each artist’s
page.
At least 150 East African artists’ Facebook pages were considered and
observed. These included fast rising, established and upcoming artists around
the region, such as Coopy Bly, Emron, Allen Majara, and Ali Kiba among others who
didn’t make the top 50 list.
This study found out that majority of the artists under utilize their
pages and also know less about effective usage of these pages to reach out to
their fans, and friends of their fans.
Facebook statistics revealed that Kenya has about 1,886,560 Facebook
users, Uganda: 537, 820, Tanzania: 681,180, Rwanda: 186760 and Burundi: 44,400.
Furthermore, this survey found out that more than 86% of the artists
don’t regularly update their pages and also lack basic tips on what content is
ideal, and how to share it to their fans.
This survey was authentically done basing on each Artiste’ Facebook
following, with evaluation done, starting from the impact on daily activity and
fans reactions.
The survey analyzed each artiste’s Official Facebook Page impact,
aggregating number of likes, Social activity such as shares, likes, comments
and viral impact of page posts among other factors.
The survey was conducted by HiPipo 5Star, a Business, Tech and Lifestyle
product of HiPipo.com that was launched 8 months ago and proudly supported by
Efrivo Ltd, and Uptime Solutions Ltd.
East Africa’s Top 50 Artists on Facebook Survey comes at the back of
other social media surveys we have conducted in the past. One of these is the Uganda’s Top 20 Corporate Brands
on Social Media which brought to light the first ever top Uganda
Corporate Brands on social media and the Celebrities’ Social Media study from
which we discovered who are the most popular Ugandan musicians on social media.
