Jubilee Alliance presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta claims Prime Minister Raila Odinga is to blame for slow economic growth during the last five years.
Speaking in Embu town during his campaign tour of the Mt Kenya region on Wednesday, Uhuru said President Kibaki’s development record would have been higher were it not for being pulled down by his co-principal in the Grand Coalition Government signed in 2008.
“Kibaki’s tenure has seen immense growth in all sectors of the economy. However, it would have been 20 times higher were it not for disruption by his co-principal,” said Uhuru.
Subsequently, Uhuru said Raila should retire together with Kibaki since “he (the PM) never achieved much while at the helm of Government.”
He urged voters to come out in large numbers and force him into retirement through the vote. “I am pleading with all of you to get up early and cast your votes and then engage in other activities,” he said.
Priority
The Jubilee flag bearer said the coming election will determine Kenya’s future for the next five years and should be given priority.
Urging Embu residents to vote for him and all his party candidates, Uhuru said a high voter turnout would rule out a runoff.
In Meru, Uhuru turned up briefly, but disappointed some TNA candidates by failing to make stopovers in some areas.
In some areas, TNA is facing stiff competition from Alliance Party of Kenya led by Energy minister Kiraitu Murungi.
Uhuru landed at Kaaga Primary at 11pm for a 30-minute meet-the-people tour in Meru town and addressed a rally at Meru Bus Park.
Today, Uhuru and his running mate William Ruto will tour Coast and address a major rally at the historic Tononoka Grounds.
This is his first rally in Coast, since he admitted his family owns vast land in a region.
Pressure has been piling on Uhuru to make a disclosure on this matter amid perceptions his late father and founding President Jomo Kenyatta is responsible for most of Coast land woes.
