The Kenyan DAILY EXPRESS can now report that former government spokesman Alfred Mutua, who is a senior member of Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD), is campaigning for Uhuru Kenyatta’s Presidential bid in Ukambani.
Credible sources within Mutua’s circles, who is eyeing the Machakos
County governor seat on a Wiper ticket, indicated that during yesterday’s tour
of Prime Minister Raila Odinga in Ukambani, Mutua skipped the rallies as he was
in his hometown drumming support for the son of Jomo.
The sources said Mutua, who is a close of ally of Uhuru Kenyatta, has
been camping in Machakos County for more than one month campaigning for Uhuru
Kenyatta.
A resident of Machakos town admitted to the Kenyan DAILY POST that there
is a clarion call in Ukambani to vote their “in-laws” for the President.
“In Ukambani the clarion call is that hapa Chini Patia Wiper kule
Juu tumpatie Muthoniwa - meaning in laws,” the resident said.
A CORD insider also told the DAILY POST that Vice President Kalonzo
Musyoka and immediate former Kangundo MPJohnstone Muthama are not in speaking
terms as they blame each other for the loss of the Kamba vote to Uhuru/Ruto.
He says there may be a “big surprise” in Ukambani on Monday due to Uhuru
Kenyatta’s soaring popularity in an area perceived to be Kalonzo Musyoka’s
backyard.
