After UHURU/RUTO’s Jubilee complained, the IEBC reduces POLLING clerks to 7 from 9 .. not 4 as earlier FEARED.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that it will reduce the number of polling clerks it plans to use in next week’s election from nine to seven per station.

IEBC CEO James Oswago said that the decision had been reached after studying the results of last Sunday’s mock election.

“We are reducing the clerks partly as a response to the simulation results,” he said.

Oswago was responding to complaints by the Jubilee coalition’s advisory council which was of the opinion that a reduction in the number of clerks would lead to longer lines given the complicated nature of next week’s election which has an unprecedented number of candidates running for office.

“This is a matter of concern to us. We are asking the commission to reconsider the move,” said Jubilee spokesman Stephen Karau.

Karua at the same time had asked the IEBC to clarify in which order the votes would be cast;

“We want to know what ballot box will be first and in which order they will be lined up at the stations,” said Karau.

However, it should be noted that Jubilee based its concerns on the belief that the IEBC was reducing the number of polling clerks from six to four.
